 Installing Slate Flooring

In order to install any flooring in a random pattern, clean the surface where the tile is to be placed. Then you must begin to layout out the stone, this way you will save hundreds of headaches trying to mach pieces while your thinset is drying!! Cut the uneven surfaces with a diamon blade grinder. Be Carefull!! Even the skillfull can get harm somethimes. After laying out your "Puzzle" you may begin placing each tile by spreading a generous coat of thinset in the back side of the tile. Make sure you are not placing the thinset on the wrong face of the tile. I know it's common sense, but it has happened before.

The next step is to place your stone and check your level line. Keep in mind that the stone is not uniform, and you might have to be a little forgiving when it comes to making it perfectly level. I suggest that you check the whole surface of the floor as opposed to trying to level each stone. You may use a 4' or 6' level to get a better plane. Good luck!
